A Story of Hope, Gratitude, and Motherhood
One of the sweetest parts of my job is getting to hear the stories behind the families I photograph. It’s never just about the pictures. It’s about what those images represent and how they help you document and remember each season of life.
When Kylie and I chatted about maternity photos with her three year old son Barrett, I could tell this session was going to be something special. What I came to realize was just how deeply personal and meaningful this season has been for her. As we planned her session, she shared with me, “I’ve dreamt of getting to be someone’s mom for as long as I can remember.”
She and her husband went through fertility struggles that made them question everything. “There was definitely a time when I had to consider the possibility that maybe God’s purpose for me was different than what I thought.” Those words stayed with me as I photographed her with Barrett, watching them run, laugh, cuddle and just enjoy each other in the moment. There was such a sweetness in the way she looked at him. You could feel how much she treasures these days. So now, with a sweet and spunky little boy at home and their baby girl due any day, everything feels a little more sacred. These aren’t just maternity photos, they’re proof of answered prayers.
“Because of our struggles,” Kylie said, “these days really do feel that much more precious. My kids are so special to me, and I am so grateful God allowed me to be their mom.”
As a mom myself, I know how quickly time can fly. One moment you're counting kicks, and the next you're chasing a toddler through the house as they make messes faster than you can clean them up. Kylie told me she never really cared for taking pictures before becoming a mom. “But since becoming a mom, I’ve realized how quickly time passes and how precious each moment is.”
That’s why this session mattered so much to her. And honestly, it’s why I do what I do. These aren’t just images for right now, they’re memories for years down the road. “I’m so grateful to know that I’ll forever have these pictures to look back on and remember each phase of this journey,” Kylie told me.
That kind of perspective makes all the difference. Kylie said, “I’m so grateful to have someone like Olivia who makes sure to take candid pictures of our family in our truest form. Nothing feels posed. It truly feels like she’s capturing real moments.”
That’s always my goal: to create space where families can be themselves, and to quietly capture the beauty and the joy that’s already there. Kylie and Barrett made that easy. They weren’t trying to look perfect. They were just being present, and that’s where the magic happens.
Kylie, thank you for trusting me with this season. These moments are worth remembering, and one day you'll look back on them while both of your babies are snuggled up in your lap.
If you’re in a season that’s meaningful for you or maybe time is flying by faster than you expected, I’d love to help you hold onto it. Let’s make some space to slow down and capture the love you’re living in right now.
